  4. Childcare Provider Charged With Battery To 2-Month-Old Infant

By: Sgt. Carey Huls, Public Information Officer, Indiana State Police Sellersburg District

Jeffersonville- August 6, 2024:  Indiana State Police arrested 35-year-old Brittany Baylor, a Jeffersonville resident and home-based childcare provider, on felony battery charges related to child abuse following an ISP investigation.

The investigation began earlier this year when ISP Detective Mike Bennett learned of an incident reported to the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) in February 2024.

During his investigation, Detective Bennett discovered that a 2-month-old child was picked up by a family member from an unlicensed, in-home daycare operated by Brittany Baylor of Jeffersonville, Indiana.  It was alleged the child was placed in a car seat by Baylor when the family member picked up the infant, and that the 2-month-old was crying during that time.  When the family member arrived home and attempted to change the child’s diaper, they noticed the child’s leg was very sensitive.

The infant's mother then took the child to Norton’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville.  Doctors at the hospital determined the child had a broken right leg.  A report later prepared by a Norton’s Pediatric Protection Specialist stated the injury was diagnostic of inflicted child physical abuse.

Detective Bennett continued the investigation which included conducting interviews and working with DCS personnel.

On July 22, 2024, Detective Bennett submitted all information to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office for review and possible charges.  An arrest warrant was subsequently issued, and Brittany Baylor was served with the new charges while being held at the Clark County Jail on separate charges stemming from a prior investigation conducted by Detective Bennett.

Brittany Baylor was charged with one count of Battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 3 Felony, and Neglect of a Dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, also a Level 3 Felony.
