The life of a stroller

Monika Spaulding, Digital Editor

Thirteen years ago this summer, I bought a jogging stroller. I found it at a yard sale in Floyds Knobs. It was brand new and it came with an infant carrier. I got it for a heck of deal. I was pregnant with my first child and was eager to get back to running after the baby came. This was my answer.

Funny thing is, things don’t always work out the way you think they will.

Instead of running, that jogging stroller got used for long walks with our first born. We love to be outside and we put a lot of miles on that stroller walking around town, taking it to state parks and anywhere else we could walk.

Then, along came our second daughter. By that time our oldest was riding a bike beside me, while I pushed her baby sister in the stroller. Again, lots of miles and walks around town, on vacations, etc.

Four years later, our third daughter was born. Again, she was put in the stroller while her older sisters rode bikes on either side of us. We walked to the library to read and/or attend programs, we walked to Salem Apothecary for ice cream, we walked to visit friends, we walked to the square to see daddy at work and we walked to visit with grandparents.

I’d like to say that the jogging stroller has a little to do with why my girls love to be outside so much and they don’t think twice when I say, “Let’s walk to ...”

This summer, my youngest has outgrown the jogging stroller and has moved onto the big girl bike.

We took a walk with it last week on the walking trail and I chuckled seeing her all scrunched in there and knew that was going to be the last time I pushed one of my girls in that old, worn out jogging stroller!

To some it may be just a stroller, but to me, it is the one thing that has carried all three of my girls and allowed us to make memories I will never forget.

Funny thing is, I never did actually run with that darn stroller.
