The Salem Board of Public Works and Safety and Common Council met Monday, Feb. 12, and handled the following business:
APPROVED: An agreement to allow Salem Building Commissioner Ronnie Voyles to provide inspection assistance to New Pekin. The agreement includes a fee schedule so the City of Salem will be reimbursed for the services Voyles’ performs for New Pekin.
APPROVED: Date changes to the Board of Works and Council meetings in April, October, and November. The April meeting was moved to Tuesday, April 9, because of the solar eclipse. The other two meetings were changed since they fell on federal holidays. The meetings will now be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and Tuesday, Nov. 12. The Board of Works meets at 5 p.m., and the Council meets at 5:30 p.m.
APPROVED: A farm rental agreement with Clayton Purlee to farm additional land at the city’s cemetery. The rental rate is $170 per acre for about 25 acres.
APPROVED: The low bid of $1,185 weekly from Moore Lawn Care to mow those areas city employees don’t mow, like around water towers, lift stations, and the dog park. Also approved was a bid from E&K Lawn Care for the removal of rank vegetation from lots in violation of city code. The bid was $60 for mowing only; $25 hourly to mow and remove debris; and $60 an acre for larger lots.
APPROVED: The addition of the Highland Drive extension into the city’s inventory.
APPROVED: The appointment of Randy Lee to the county’s Solid Waste Board.
