WW student headed to state in archery

Hunter Irwin, a junior at West Washington High School, has qualified for the state competition in archery.

“He was close last year and did qualify the year before,” said Michelle Chastain, who advises the archery club.

Archery has been offered at West Washington for four years. There were not enough students to form a team this year, so students competed individually. “You have to have at least 12 people to qualify as a team,” Chastain said.

Irwin has been shooting since he was a child and said archery is his favorite sport.

“I just focus on the tiny details of every shot and use the same process for each shot,” he said. “It’s something you can do for a long time. There’s lots of different leagues.”

Irwin will compete at the Indianapolis Fairgrounds around 3:50 p.m. on Saturday.
