East Washington Elementary students found themselves surrounded by the fruits of last spring's students' labor this week as they harvested two ears of popping corn each from the school popcorn patch. Students planted the corn last spring, along with pumpkins that didn't do so well this year, leaving them only able to harvest the corn this year.

That was all right, however, because Dean and Anita Stumler, of Stumler Farm, allowed second-grade students to go to their farm to choose a pumpkin free of charge.

"Typically, we are also picking pumpkins this time of year," said EWES Principal Stacy Richardson. "We have such a wonderful community supporting our kids!!"
