Salem Announces Return to School Plans

Salem Community Schools announced some new guidelines for their return to school in a press release on Friday. The school announced they will return in two phases. The first phase will begin on Monday July 6. Summer activities including sports and band can resume that day while adhering to IHSAA and IDOE guidelines. More plans and schedules for athletics will be released on June 23.

The second phase will be returning to the classroom. The school will open on time on August 6. The first student day will be the sixth. School will be in session five days per week and the approved 2020-2021 calendar will be followed. Safety measures will also be in place.

The school also announced that if a student had a medial condition that prevented them from returning or the parents didn’t feel comfortable they could utilize the Online Lions program.

There will be another School Trustees meeting on July 13 where the complete re-entry plan will be released. The school is continuing to seek guidance form the CDC, ISDH, and Washington County Health Department if changes to the start date or calendar need to be made.
