A new look for SMS

Salem Middle School art teacher Carole Clodfelter has been busy at work this summer making some neat changes to the school's look.

Assistant Principal Clinton Blankenbaker said they are slowly changing the school colors over to black and gold to match the high school. When students enter the building next week, they will see more black and gray then the gray and maroon they have become accustomed to.

In addition to that, Clodfelter has been busy painting murals on walls, including a landscape scene on the main concrete wall when coming in the front doors and a large lion head in the back hallway near the band, choir and art rooms.

Students and parents will get a chance to see these changes first hand this week. Sixth grade orientation is Tuesday from 12:30-3 p.m. and Wednesday from 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday from 6-8 p.m. is SMS parent night. Seventh and eighth grade students will be able to get their schedules on Thursday as well.

Salem's first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 2.
