Kids invited to Saturday Science at SHS

On Saturday, Nov. 16, the Salem High School Science Club is having a science day for elementary students in grades 3, 4 and 5 who wish to participate.

The science day will involve three separate workshops: the chemistry of gases, the physics of magnets and electricity, and in the biology room, they will be looking at the human eye.

They will bring home two science activities to share with Mom and Dad and snacks will be provided during a mid-morning break.

Activities will run from 9 a.m. to noon in the science department at Salem High School, NOT at the elementary school. Each student will participate in all three workshops and will be doing hands-on science most of the morning.  The total cost for this activity is $15 per student or $20 for a family.

Students can register by emailing John Calhoun at jcalhoun@salemschools.com and can bring their money on Saturday morning to the high school. Calhoun said this activity is the club’s only fundraiser and helps supports the students in science competitions, research, scholarships and trips throughout the year.
