EWSC hopes donors will "Take A Seat" to support the arts

Staff Writer Kate Wehlann

Are you thinking of what you’ll have on your list of New Year’s resolutions this year? Instead of the old standbys, what about supporting the arts or the schools? East Washington is hoping that’s something you’ll consider.
The school is “selling” seats in their performing arts center in the middle school for $100 a piece, and $75 for every subsequent seat. Names of “buyers” will be placed on the back of the seats and on a plaque displayed in the hallway outside the PAC, recognizing the supporters of the arts program at East Washington.
“While the purchase of a seat does not guarantee that your seat will be reserved for you, it does ensure that future generations of East Washington students will have a state of the art performing arts center where they can sing, dance, perform and act,” reads the order form, available at the school offices.
Funds raised will go to upgrade the lighting and sound system and other repairs and updates the facility needs.
“We’re hoping for newer microphones and expanding what we can offer in the way of sound,” said PAC Supervisor and Band Director Matt Lindley. “We’d like to offer more video services, too, which would allow the school to create better-produced recordings.”
Interest is building in the fundraiser. Lindley said after recent concerts, several people approached him with questions and some have already committed to buying their seats.
“Earlier this year, [Superintendent] Mr. [Dennis] Stockdale asked me if I’d be interested in being supervisor for the PAC and since then, I’ve been looking for ways to increase revenue and bring performing groups to perform at the PAC.
“We have a beautiful facility and I want to find ways to bring the community in to see that.”
To purchase your seat, pick up a form at the school office and return it with the appropriate payment to the office in care of Matt Lindley or mail to him at Eastern High School, 1100 N. Eastern School Rd., Pekin, Indiana, 47165. Make checks payable to “East Washington School Corporation.”
