Superintendent Keith Nance noticed something at the start of the year. The classrooms at West Washington seemed a bit fuller.

Looking at the student count, which was taken Friday, Sept. 14, his eyes were not deceiving him. The school saw a 7 percent  – 54-student – increase in enrollment, bringing the school’s total to 848 students.

“I think there are a lot of things that impact that number, but I think mostly it’s people wanting to be a part of something that’s very positive right now,” he said during the West Washington School Board meeting Monday, Sept. 17. “We’re heading in a very proactive direction and doing a lot of things, starting with [the school board] on down. We’re known to be kid-first in our decision making, kid-first in providing the best choices we can for kids in their curriculum and making sure in the way we deliver that curriculum, we’re also putting kids first.”

He attributed that to students and parents telling others about the good experiences they’ve had with the school.
