10 New Books!

By the end of the 2019-2020 school year, teachers at BSE are hoping that their students will have 10 new books to start or add to their home library.

Ask and you shall receive. Amy Weaver knows that all too well and was amazed by the response she received after posting on Facebook her desire to have all her kindergarten students this year receive one book per month.

“Praise the Lord, I have already met my goal,” Amy said. Her post on Facebook, posted in the morning of July 19, asking for donations was met by that afternoon. She intends to use the money to buy each of her students a new book each month.

“$1 books are offered each month through Scholastic,” Amy explained. Although she does have some parents who are able to order books, she said there are some kiddos who never get any.

This way the 20 plus students that are in her class this year will have 10 new books by the end of the school year.

Even though she hit her goal, she welcomes other donations to help fund her classroom library and other classroom needs.

A former student of hers who now lives in Arizona was one of the first to pledge a donation. “She lives all the way in Arizona and wants to donate,” Amy said. “It is such a blessing.

“We live in a supportive community.”

This is Amy’s 21st year of teaching at Bradie Shrum Elementary. Fellow Kindergarten teachers Pam Barry, Stephanie Bower, Jenisa Collier, Kacy Wilkerson, Misty Callaway and Beth Smith are joining her in her endeavor.

Also wanting to add to or start a home library for their students are second grade teacher, Nicole Motsinger and Michelle Burton from third grade.
