David Norton

Libertarian

County Council District 4

Community involvement: Except for stints at college and a year in Scott County, I have lived all my 60 years in Washington County. I farmed with my Dad, was a partner and machinist in Norton Tool and Machine, worked for Kimball's at Salem and Borden in Quality Control and as an Industrial and Process Engineer, took care of my Mom, and now work for Archer Consultation Services. I am a member of Mt. Hebron Christian Church. I am a co-founder of the Concerned Taxpayers of Washington County and the Chairman of the local Libertarian Party.
I have a BA in Mathematics from IUS, an MS in Statistics from the University of Kentucky, and an MS in Industrial Engineering and Management Science from Northwestern.

A statement about why you are the best candidate: "I think I am the best candidate because of my education in the use of data to make decisions such as the budgetary decisions of the County Council; and because of my libertarian philosophy that government should do as little, spend as little, and tax as little as possible. Before implementing a government program, 1) there should be an actual problem, 2) which only government can address, 3) the proposed program will actually solve the problem, 3) the program is the least intrusive and cost effective program and there are no better uses for the money or resources. Only then should a program be adopted.
Taxes should be broadly based so the incidence on each taxpayer is as low as possible. Government should avoid picking winners and losers, favoring outside large businesses over local small businesses with tax abatements or TIF districts which divert money from schools and other government functions.
Government should be as open and transparent as possible, with public input and comment beyond the minimal requirements of the law."
