A staple in the local fitness community is closing. Cindy Hartsook, franchise owner of Curves, said she is closing the fitness center for women at the end of December.
Curves opened in Salem in 2000; Hartsook has managed the center for the past decade. “It’s changed so much over the years, as has everything,” she said. “I knew it was time for a new chapter for me.”
Hartsook originally planned to close in April, when her contract ends, but she said, “all of the sudden, God started opening doors.” Those doors led to a job offer from Ryan Buchanan, CEO of Skyline Suites, the new assisted living facility currently under construction in Salem. Hartsook will be in charge of food services and assist with management. “I’m looking forward to being able to continue giving help to others, but in a different way,” she said. “Curves has been a blessing, that’s all I can say. I’ve had a lot of people through the years that have blessed my life and allowed me to grow by sharing their wisdom and experience.”
