Ash Wednesday service

March 6 is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten Season. To commemorate this special time of the Christian year the Salem United Methodist Church will have a simple meal at 6:00 p.m. in our basement. A variety of soups will be provided by the United Methodists with salads brought in by the Presbyterians.  Pretzels will also be served since they have a history of being made by Catholic monks for the Lenten Season.  They are unleavened and have two loops twisted together representing the monks folding their arms in prayer.

Following the meal an Ash Wednesday Service will be held upstairs in the sanctuary at 7:00 p.m..  The Presbyterian choir will join with the United Methodist choir in singing the song, "Above All."  The service will close with the opportunity for parishioners to receive the imposition of ashes in the sign of a cross on their forehead.

The community is invited to come.  For more information contact Rev. Linda Watson at 812-883-2634 or on facebook or on the church website www.saleminumc.com.  The church is located one block from the town square up the brick street at 202 E. Market Street.
