Salem UMC holds benefit concert

Salem United Methodist Church held a benefit concert featuring the Lick Creek Band.  This is the third year for this benefit with proceeds going to the Washington County Food Bank.

The beaufitul harmonies, guitars and string bass filled the air with songs from 1910 and through the decades to the present time. The band added some Christmas songs to their repertoire including "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," and "O Holy Night." A special request came from the audience to do Lick Creek Band's signature song "Viva Livonia!" Peole clapped, cheered, tapped their toes and sang along on the song heralding Washington County's small town of Livonia.

Band member Dr. Eric Harmon gave a little talk about how important the Food Bank really is since he serves on the board of the orange County Food Bank and sees the need first hand. When the offering plates were passed, the largest ever donation was collected.

The Salem United Methodist Men's Group sponsored Lick Creek Band with funds from their own treasury. These funds were collected at their monthly breakfasts so that 100% of the donations at the concert could be given to the Washington County Food Band.

The concert was well received by a record crowd with record donations. Refreshments were served after the concert with many staying to enjoy the refreshments and fellowship.

Lick Creek Band said they play at a lot of places, but really enjoy coming to the Salem United Methodist Church for this benefit.

The offering of $1,700 was given to Paul Scifres and Maurice Godfrey from the local Food Bank.
